Photographing Reflections

Sunday 01 September
Bond Avenue - 2pm - 2 Hours
Loredana Sabau
We will be using natural water reflections and seeking out man-made reflective surfaces in the area to explore how we can use reflections to add depth and intrigue to our images. Reflections can help us to show our subject from an unusual, or from multiple, points of view. We can use reflections to abstract our subject or to make perfect mirror images. We'll even have a look at how we can create our own reflections when there are none around.

Rule of Thirds

Sunday 06 October
Furzton Lake, Milton Keynes, ENG - 1pm - 2 Hours
Loredana Sabau
One of the most basic tenets of composition is the Rule of Thirds. Although most people are familiar with this technique it is often forgotten in the haste to take a photo. However you ignore it at your peril as it can make an average snap into something which is has tension and dynamism.

In this meetup we will practice using the Rule of Thirds in a setting full of photographic possibility.

this photo was created using the "Shoot through" technique, I was actually shooting through other planted flowers but you can cheat and use a bit of foliage, silk flowers, lace, coloured film etc.you need to use a fairly high iso - you want lots of light, and then a fairly wide open aperture - this was shot at f2.8 and a FAST shutter speed, i think this was about 1/3000. The lens was a second hand one I had just bought, so was testing it out, its an Olympus 50 - 200mm Four Thirds, so I had to

The photo is not complicated - I simply used a perspex shallow tray with white card behind it. I then poured a mixture of milk and water into the tray - I used about 50 - 50 mix. Just make sure the mixture isn't too deep and then place your object of choice into it, letting some of the object show through the milky water and the rest above it. I hand held the camera above the image, worked out what lighting I needed so I didn't get reflections and took the image. The only post processing tha

Arches is considered a dark sanctuary meaning using light painting is not allowed. I went to do Astro Photography in June of 2021. This was taken approximately 2am when the Milky Way rose to the center of the arch. While it is a dark sanctuary, someone was hiking on the other side with a headlamp giving me just a touch of light painting to outline the arch. I held the wide angle lens open approximately 13-seconds, ISO 1600.
